Kearsley Academy are incredibly proud to celebrate Jack Schofield, Year 11, as The Bolton News’ Secondary School Student of the Year 2019/2020, following on from Kearsley Academy being awarded the Secondary School of the Year award for 2018/2019.
Jack was nominated for this award by his fellow students, Tom and Hayley who nominated Jack for lots of reasons, but mostly due to the fact that Jack is generous with his time and support. Tom said, “Jack is always on hand to help people whenever they need it. He helps me with my homework if I need it, and in lessons he will support me if I get stuck and help me to understand – especially in Science!” Hayley echoed this sentiment and talked about Jack’s good character saying ‘Jack is helpful to everyone in our Community. He helps out lots of people in school and is always helpful to Teachers and others, he puts others first and helps them to succeed.”
Jack is very humble himself about receiving this honour, and said ‘I was amazed to be nominated for this award by someone else for five years of hard work and dedication – I’m proud that so many people have recognised my dedication and commitment that I hope to show every day and I’m grateful for the nomination. My plans after Secondary School are to go on and do A-Levels in English Literature, English Language and Media Studies. After this, I’d like to go on to University and complete a Teacher Training qualification to become a Teacher of English. I’d like to be a teacher because I’d like to change the futures of the next generation and give them a good education just like I have had, and to follow in the footsteps of my teachers at Kearsley Academy.
Kim McKee, our Principal said, “It is a delight to see one of our students not only nominated for, but awarded, this accolade that highlights Jack’s consistent hard work and mature approach to his studies throughout his time at Kearsley Academy. Jack is a role model to our students and we are proud that this has been recognised not just by our staff but by Jack’s peers as well. This is thoroughly deserved!”
Kearsley Academy is part of Northern Education Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust that is ‘Outcomes Focused and Child Centred.’ The Academy works hard to ensure that all students leave with qualifications that will set them apart in further education and the wider world of employment. This is demonstrated by the incredible rise in results in recent years. In 2019, 52% of students left with a 5+ in both Maths and English combined, well above the National Average, and recognising students such as Jack is one way that the Academy works with the community to offer students incredible life chances for the future.
