Key Stage 4 Pupils continue their Pursuit of Post-16 Opportunities and Pupils have their say on our Careers Programme

This week at Kearsley Academy our Year 10 pupils embarked on a new tailored programme of personalised Careers Guidance with an informative assembly led by our Careers Adviser, Louise Goodman, from CareersInc. The assembly began by explaining the options available to our pupils once they have completed their GCSEs: College or Sixth Form College, Apprenticeships, Traineeships or Employment (with training). We then looked at the key differences between the options to give pupils an understanding of which route they think might suit them best. The assembly drew to an end with information on ‘Next Steps’ and where to go for further advice, with a short questionnaire to evaluate our pupils’ understanding of their options, which will guide our tailored Careers Programme at Kearsley Academy.

A variety of pupils from across all year groups were also invited to a Careers Focus Group on Tuesday, where they provided us with an invaluable insight into what they would like to see on our Careers Programme – ranging from opportunities to meet employers, a chance to visit workplaces and a place to browse college prospectuses.

They said – we did!

Our next Careers Fair is now confirmed as Wednesday 12th February 2020 and will host a variety of employers as well as other Post-16 Providers, allowing pupils to receive face to face advice and information. We have confirmed a date for a representative from Salford City College to attend the Academy at KS4 lunch on Friday 6th December to begin a regular weekly occurrence. We will also be meeting with an External Employer in a fortnight to explore opportunities to visit workplaces in the new year.
