Overview of the Y6 Virtual Transition Offer

Understandably, many of you may be anxious about the transition from your primary school to Kearsley Academy. Due to the necessary restrictions currently in place and scheduled transition dates being unavailable, we are delighted to offer the virtual transition information, tasks and activities within this part of our website. Please find in this section some Remote Assemblies, A Virtual Tour of the Academy, Remote Subject Lessons to prepare you for the new year, an opportunity to ask ‘One Big Question’ or of course more if needed and a Transition Activity Pack that we would like you to have a go at and bring with you in the new academic year. Please find further information about these initiatives below:

New Beginnings Activities Booklet

We appreciate that you will want to begin your Kearsley Academy academic career as soon as possible, some of you have already been involved in our weekly PROUD Thursday Online initiative. In order to give you an opportunity to share some of your skills, interests and hobbies with us and to begin to get excited about the prospect of starting at Kearsley Academy, we are inviting you to complete the New Beginnings Activity Booklet within this section of the website.

Virtual Tour

A big part of our transition process is ensuring that you experience stepping inside the building at Kearsley Academy and to know your way around. To help support this process, you will be able to watch a virtual tour. The virtual tour signposts subject areas, where to have lunch, where to spend break times and lunchtimes and also specific area such as the Bridge and Main Reception.

‘One Big Question’ opportunity

Usually at this time of year, you are invited to hear a presentation from the Principal, Mrs McKee about what to expect when you begin your academic journey with us. Staff are available to answer any questions that you may have. We are inviting you to ask ‘One Big Question’ or more using the following google form link. The questions that we receive will be addressed in our remote assemblies.

Remote Subject Lessons and Challenges

We want to prepare you for life at Kearsley Academy and give you a chance to find out what to expect in lessons, as a result of this our subject teachers have completed some Kearsley Academy lessons similar to what you will experience in the new year. We would like you to have a go at the lessons and send your work to PROUD Thursday Online. [email protected]

PROUD Thursday Online

A huge part of our culture at Kearsley Academy is the celebration of all of our student’s achievements including yours. On a ‘normal’ Thursday at Kearsley Academy, you will be able to bring any work that you are proud of to PROUD Thursday. This is where you will be able to present your very best work to senior members of staff. In return, you could receive a certificate to celebrate your achievements and a snack sized reward treat.

To continue to celebrate achievements, an online version of PROUD Thursday exists via our Twitter account; @kearsleyacademy. Some of you have already been sending your work and wellbeing activities to PROUD Thursday and we would be delighted to receive more work through the challenges set within the remote subject lessons. You will receive a PROUD certificate and a chance to win a voucher.
